Le Louvre Couture
Objets d’art, objets de mode
Ever since Paul Cézanne, we’ve known that “the Louvre is a book in which we learn to read”, but this inexhaustible source of inspiration has not escaped one of the liveliest worlds of contemporary creation: fashion.
Faced with the encyclopedic immensity of the Louvre, the method proposed here is to consider this multiple subject in the light of the history of decorative styles, crafts and ornamentation, through the galleries and rooms of the Objets d’art department.
Covering almost 9,000 square meters, 65 contemporary silhouettes, accompanied by some 30 accessories, are displayed in a close, original, historical and poetic dialogue with the department’s masterpieces, from Byzantium to the Second Empire. These remarkable loans have been granted by the most emblematic houses, from the oldest to the most recent, from Paris and beyond.
